User Experience and Experience Design by Marc Hassenzahl

A very interesting interview that Marc Hassenzahl discusses his view on experience. He challenges the definition of User Experience because it is too focused on the usage and consumption aspects of the users. Marc believes experience should be more emotional. The duration of the experience is shorter but it would have a more prolonged effect because it will be stored into the users’ memory. Marc suggests experience requires a deeper level of psychology engagement.

The interview is also recorded in a two parts document that is available at the Interaction-Design.org I would strongly recommend you read this over if you are interested in this topic.

PS: The Wakeup Light that Marc uses as an example is available at London Drugs. I have seen one a couple days ago at the Lougheed Mall’s London Drugs. I was wondering what that is and found out it was used as an example by Marc. Very strange.
